The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Anger About Sizing Modifications
Members of the platform have expressed outrage following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.
This online marketplace has revised its size classifications for women's and children's garments but did not contact all users about the change.
Social Media Response
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category than originally posted as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with other platforms.
They have suggested members to examine their items and manually change the size where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Changes
Previously, the measurements included one number and one letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - such as a large size was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Accounts
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, located in Scotland, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Manual Updates
Another shopper, located in England, stated she felt frustrated because the modification necessitated personal updates the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she said.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: previously, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options following member complaints.
